The United States Air Force goes through a lot of equipment every day. The equipment is used to change tires on aircraft, to replace missing components and to basically maintain the equipment which is used on a day-to –day basis. Because not everything can be made onsite to fill the needs of the base, it is necessary to order the materials and have them shipped to a central warehouse on the base where everything can be handled and distributed properly.
Shipping and Receiving
When you work as a material management apprentice in the US Air Force, you will be responsible for making sure that the materials that your unit needs are being ordered and are being warehoused properly. This will help to make sure that the material which is needed is at the right location for those who need it.
In order to make sure you know what you are doing, you will receive comprehensive training at the Lackland AFB in Texas. You will be taught how to do such things as create orders, receive materials and make sure that they are stored correctly. You will also learn how to catalog the inventory so that it will be easily found when it is time for the material to be used by the appropriate departments.
