Flying an aircraft is something which is difficult enough without adding complications to the situation. When you are carrying a load of tanks or other important cargo, it is important that you make no mistakes. Making sure that the pilots will be able to fly smoothly even with a fully loaded cargo bay is the job of those working as an aircraft loadmaster apprentice in the US Air Force.
Loading is a Science
When you load any aircraft, there are many different specifications which must be taken into account. You have to take into account more than just the height of the cargo and if there is enough room in the cargo bay. You have to calculate the total weight of the cargo and make sure that everything is properly distributed so that the weight is even. Additionally, if making drops, you will have to make sure the cargo will be dropped in the order they need to be dropped in.
Additional Requirements of the Job
In addition to making sure that everything is loaded correctly, you will be responsible for helping to conduct pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight inspections of the aircraft itself. You will also be in charge of making sure that any personnel whom will be flying on board the aircraft understand the importance of the weight and balance issues in the aircraft so that they can remain safe.
